BRYAN CARR SCHOOL OF PERFORMAING ARTS

Mission Statement: Shannon Star Stage School is first and foremost a Musical Theatre based school with performance development for young people as its core vision. The vision of the school will be carried out through group classes and workshops along with recital and costumed productions.

The main subject taught will be confidence building...this is the key to making any stage school an enjoyable experience. Every individual student attending our school will have their own personal strengths and weaknesses. At Shannon Star your child will be afforded the opportunity to develop their own personal performance skills at their own pace and without the pressure of the schools quality or reputation to inhibit this development.

We want your child to grow in confidence. In this age of peer pressure, goals and achievement levels, bullying and isolation issues your child may need an outlet whereby their artistic side is developed and applauded. They may not come out of our Stage School as the best singer or best dancer or best actor but then again that is not what our school is about.

Curriculum & Tutors

Singing Module Bryan Carr covers the Singing tuition and also acts as the Musical Director. He has over nine years of Stage School experience in Tralee, Killarney, Listowel and Ballybunion and has experience with teaching children singing as well as directing productions throughout the world and has twice taken over twenty children on tour to Taiwan with a professional production he wrote, produced and directed himself. Bryan studied in Dublin with Dr. Veronica Dunne and later at the Tonnel Acadmey in Masstricht and at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. He has performed in Opera, Oratorio and Musicals throughout the world.

The production pieces covered in Stage School will feature new school-based musicals especially produced for Musical Theatre youth groups. All the traditional and well-known musicals are also covered in the Schools that involve the entire school. Bryan says that ‘with the numbers limited we can work at a relaxed and pressure free environment giving more time to the individual students and making sure that while all students are paying the same amount to attend the school that they are also getting an equal amount of class time and performance time’.

Drama Module This facilitator in Drama has years of Stage School experience. Tom Lawlor has a very like-minded approach to building self-confidence through his main forte of improvisation work along with devised and self-developed material. Drama will be integrated into the productions that will be presented and all age groups will be given the chance to present their acting abilities. A number of workshops throughout the year will be given to close camera work.

Dancing Module An important part of any performance school. Aileen Coffey has years of professional dance experience abroad winning several awards and has experience working with children. Styles covered will be choreographed block movement, rock jazz, hip-hop and modern. The integration of dance as it relates to the particular scene / production is vital for the understanding of movement.

Music Theory Module Bryan’s qualifications from The Leinster School of Music and Drama Dublin in musicianship along with qualifications from The Royal Academy in singing and the Guildhall London qualifications in solo acting will assure that your child will get ongoing classes in music theory and music appreciation carried out in a workshop and fun environment.

Performing Arts - Theatre Production Modules The understanding of the FOH (Front of House) and BOH (Back of House) workings within a Theatre. Site visits to a Theatre to better understand the production aspect of Theatre; the roles of the Producer, Director, Stage personnel and Theatre hierarchy in general. Understanding of stage terms and working alongside sound and lighting operators. All students will cover basic stage elements but the afternoon students will work more in-depth on this module.

Video and Studio Recording Module Working both in front of and behind a camera and microphone. Understanding camera work, direction and studio management as well as sound recording, mixing and editing. All students will be given an opportunity to work in front of the camera or record their very own CD while more the more senior students will work as camera operators, sound engineers etc.
